What do you have to say to the typical response that Villeneuve erased Islam from the Dune films - and I agree he did! - to avoid defaming Islam? Paul Atreides, after all, is a villain protagonist or tragic antihero, not a hero. While Herbert wrote Muad'dib's Jihad as historically analogous to the early rise of Islam under Muhammad and the Rightly Guided Caliphs, that's quite an unflattering impression of Islam to give people in our day and age, even given that the historical analogy does hold and that people in Amazigh, Arab, and Muslim societies see themselves in the Fremen and in Dune broadly.
I haven't watched the video (not my preferred medium), but I assume the point is that while the Dune (fictional) movie erases Islam, the Dune (fictional) book very much does not.
Following the theme, of the tangent, we can go bigger yet, and divide concepts into those that are demonstrable, like bieng sensored/re written, and things that are purely human constructs, like money and the easter bunny, some would include religion, but then we get into a debate about devine delivered truth, or we could include all of scientific theory, things like numbers.
In any case when it comes to gods comandments, these truths are by definition non negotiable, and if you are a believer then you dont do that, and if you are not, again, there is no point in debate, and civilisations thrive on knowing where various peoples beliefs are exposed, and finding other things to enjoy arguing about.
Bieng a muslim on the one hand and a reader of Frank Herberts works on the other with no interest in the shamefull garbage that comes out of the movie industry, I could only direct you to Mr Herberts comentary on the analysis others did ,of how much of the first Star wars movie is a direct plagerism of Dune.
Even opinion on fiction is forbidden it seems (my post has been killed)
That's because it was only a quote, I think.
Hi Yousef,

Dune is fiction.

“Erase” is sleight of hand. Islam isn’t affected at all by it being omitted from the movie.
So is Islam.
Sure, all religions are fictional, but I don't know that that has anything to do with the discussion.
What a small minded view.
Okay. Let's think larger. All religions are fiction.
