Platinum and the BeOS/Haiku GUI are still my favourites. Imagine being able to distinguish a control from a label. Or not using abstract monochrome icons. Not in 2026 unfortunately.
These two operating systems are genuinely peak OS UI design. A large number of modern UI elements that are visually appealing and clearly identifiable for what they are.
