Reddit blocks all search engines except Google. You have to log in to use Old Reddit. Actually, you cannot access Old Reddit with a new account. You cannot use RSS feeds anymore. You cannot use the Wayback Machine anymore. If you're on a VPN or a public WiFi, you cannot use New Reddit while being logged out either.
And despite all of these annoyances imposed on their own users, who made the content and tirelessly maintain it, it still costs fractions of a penny to scrape Reddit on Bright Data et al.
Not a fan. But why does the article have a reddit quote that is inaccurate? The article says Reddit said the following but nowhere does Reddit say it:

Anyone have any recommendations for generalist discussion forums? I know some great topic focused ones and enjoy tildes and metafilter for generalist discussions but I'd love to know if there are some other solid ones out there.
RSS is how I follow stuff so this is the last straw for me though I'm been reducing my reddit use for a while now due to discussion quality issues caused by their social media style "modernization".
They've pivoted away from being a set of forums to being mostly just another social media site and steadily lost most of their previous appeals. And bot activity and other bad faith manipulations on the site certainly haven't helped.
I'd say I'm sad to see reddit go like this but it left a long time ago and all we're left with now is new reddit.
