This whole kerfuffle made me curious how common it is for a geographic object between two countries to be called by different names and it is surprisingly (at least to me) common!
Examples include:
Sea between Korean and Japan
Gulf between Iran and Arabian Peninsula
Islands controlled by Japan, claimed by China
Islands controlled by South Korea, claimed by Japan
Islands controlled by Russia, claimed by Japan
River forming part of China-Russia border
River forming part of China-North Korea border
Moutain on China-North Korea border
River through India and Bangladesh
Body of water between Britain and France
This was after a phone call from Trump, unlike Google which complied in advance - I wonder if it was to Cook or Ternus?
