This is distraction. The WH has learned how to avoid substantive debate by spraying shit and seeing what sticks.

Treating this as important pushes real news off the front page and to some extent the complicity of the click receiving news publishers is happy to comply.

Though in any sane world, the distraction from the distraction from the distraction... Would each be career ending in itself.

But it's not a sane world. It's a world where the US doesn't even pretend to stick to the spirit or letter of deals that it makes. And so dealing with the US is pointless whether you are their oldest and closest ally or a nation currently at war with them.

You can't even rely on their own national self interest, you'd need to know exactly which billionaire has the ear of the president for the entire span of your agreement.

The thing about "Trump demands" is that the wind will change direction very quickly, like before you've even got your lips in position to say 'F'.

Would they want to run the gauntlet of the various 'migration' agencies anyway?

Trump's left hand is saying come here, whilst his right is crushing migrant children. What to do, what to do?
