This event is the "big brother" of what happened in Italy in 2022 with the Marmolada glacier collapse which was tiny compared to this. Additionally, the orography in Tibet/Nepal is much more dramatic (higher elevations, steeper slopes, narrower valleys).

I wonder how long they had from the collapse to it reaching villages. Here in Switzerland glaciers and thawing mountains are monitored pretty closely with sensors. Villages are evacuated when it starts to get dangerous.
The sheer amount of land mass that moved triggered seismometers all over the place. One seismometer registered a 5.2M. To put this in perspective, on the surface of the earth, quake energy does not travel very well. For this to make a seismometer register that high would require an absolutely terrifying massive amount of land to be moving on the surface.
Current estimates are the slide itself was roughly half a mile wide. That's absolutely massive.
Do the per Capita calculation. Why can US and Canadian folks emit 4x as much as the average Chinese citizen? Do you believe you have the right to do so only because you are born in the West?
I believe that if it wasn't producing shit for US its emissions would be vastly lower.

Another similar tragedy (although with totally different reasons) was the Vajont Dam mega tsunami in 1963 in north Italy (est. up to 2500 deaths)
