Major? A Marine fighter jet, a skydiving plane carrying 12 people, an Air Force bomber, and a business jet carrying six people. In aviation terms, no, those are not major. They're tragic for the lives lost, but they're nothing like a plane carrying 100 people going down.

The phrase “what is going on” has become a trope with regard to aviation, signaling a complete drive-by lack of understanding of the industry. It could be a cluster illusion. It could be a conspiracy. It will be investigated, and the conclusions of those investigations should be the driving force in any procedural changes, not some facebook mom or CNN article.

And people want to see conspiracies everywhere so the media reports things as such, or at least hinting that there's something there in order to attract eyeballs. I wonder how long it'll take before we find out how many of the missing scientists were on the flights, at least the passenger-carrying ones?
