Why do you show a video when I’m trying to read? Why can’t I close the video? Why does the video follow me? Do you hate your readers? It feels like you hate your readers.
So many websites do this, it's basically the norm. On mobile Safari you can use "hide distracting items" to get rid of it.
Alternatively, add and use a "kill sticky" bookmarklet, which is useful in many other situations. You can modify the bookmarklet to re-enable scrolling if that got disabled by a paywall/regwall.
