I cannot believe any of these companies hire anyone this way. Perhaps job hunt has become some pointless theatre at this point, where for legal reasons you have to advertise a job and humiliate bunch of of people (this is UK after all, being humane is out of the question), when in actuality the job goes to someone the manager has preselected and knows personally.

Perhaps there should be an AI-interviewee, who the jobseekers could assign being interviewed by AI?

To my mind, this pattern matches to straight dating apps.

Any slight preponderance of men vs. women (and possibly not even requiring that) leads to a fraction of men following a "low effort flirt with everyone" strategy, leading to women getting frustrated by exactly that and leaving the platform, increasing the imbalance and the fraction of men tempted to follow that strategy.

In the job market (job hunters and employers both), some fraction use AI to reduce effort, but the result is "low effort flirt with everyone" strategy, causing all the people not using AI to get more overwhelmed, increasing the temptation to use AI, increasing the degree to which everyone else is overwhelmed.
