Has any American president expressed such a thing in words before? Even considering the terrible things that country has done in the past, revelling in death and misery in this way is a new low.
The character of a country is mostly defined by those who have power either nationally or locally. The value of democracy is that, if well implemented, those in power reflect proportionately the wishes of the whole nation. Sadly it rarely happens.
To my country and my generation US have broght freedom, democracy and unlimted growth. It did so by breaking the neck of muredrous totalitarian regime and central planing economy we have all been living under for 50 years.
USA have also delivered - freedom of travel anywhere I can immagine. And for the last 30 years have sponsored our way of life with cheap oil and free trade routes.
Whatever is going on right now, I am still grateful for all the good things.

Generally speaking, the people that work in the U.S. Government are not evil.
Generally speaking, the people that work in large corporations are not evil.
Generally speaking, the U.S. Government and corporate machines are generally evil which means concentrated power.
