HN submissions near april 1st should include the day when the linked article was posted. this one was posted on march 27.

recent news are so absurd that you can't tell reality from an april fools joke any more.

It's an issue! As someone who's worked on science policy for decades, including time in the Beltway, you cannot develop a robust and world-leading science policy strategy with technologists alone!

I would say still better than reality TV stars and ignorant podcasters.

...and you can with a single technologist?

Perhaps you don't understand peon. The technologist is there to take orders and execute. You thought you were being given input/a voice at the table? God, no. That's above your station. Now go on, shoo. Let the monied people talk. We'll call you when we need something done.

Everyday a new low. I shouldnt be surprised, but i cant believe someone could be so self serving and selfish.

    > focus on the opportunities and challenges that emerging technologies present to the American worker…

None of the billionaires care about the challenges of these technologies to the American worker. One of them laid off 30,000 workers yesterday, and the rest have laid off hundreds of thousands more directly (in their words) BECAUSE of AI / emerging technologies.

    Just feels hypocritical and disrespectful

This feels like regulatory capture by the tech industry. Academic research needs representation as well.

I bet we see some incredible vaccines released in the near future. We'll be sending patients to cure their cancer regularly on Mars.

Not that it matters much, pretty sure Trump is inadvisable.

We should insist on the proper name, "oligarchs", perhaps with the adjective "Trump crony".
