    Old geezer perspective:

    - Before that new-fangled "TV" thing made it so easy to dose your brain with "I am socially connected" juice - without any of the bother, costs, or risks of actual human relationships - there were far more male friendships. And social institutions and norms which made it relatively easy to form and maintain lasting friendships.

    - Like any real-world relationship, a male friendship requires social skills, commitment, and good judgement. Things which are seldom taught, or simply unfashionable these days.
