Dijkstra said of Lisp that "it has assisted a number of our most gifted fellow humans in thinking previously impossible thoughts."

And a new era begins of endlessly fixing piles of machine-generated code that no one understands.

Paywalled, but the whole source is this twit https://x.com/rough__sea/status/2013280952370573666 (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46682446):

    > This has been said a thousand times before, but allow me to add my own voice: the era of humans writing code is over. Disturbing for those of us who identify as SWEs, but no less true. That's not to say SWEs don't have work to do, but writing syntax directly is not it.

I certainly won't be claiming we are done writing code until I stop seeing dumb mistakes come out of these things. They still require massive hand holding and it's often faster to do it yourself.

This is before we get to the "use it or lose it" discussions. If you don't write code yourself, how can you evaluate what the agent produces?
