i built cashmonki, a personal finance app for people who know they should budget but hate doing it.
most budgeting apps fail me in two ways:
they require too much manual input
they feel abstract, so i ignore them
cashmonki is opinionated around fixing that.
what it does
scan receipts instead of typing expenses
simple budgets with clear daily limits
optional “roast” feedback so spending feels real, not theoretical
local-first storage. your data stays on your device
works offline. no bank syncing required
one small feature people like:
you can set a daily budget for things like coffee, and it auto shows what that habit costs you per year. seeing “this latte is a $900/year decision” hits differently.
why i built it
i kept losing money to forgotten expenses and “small” habits. spreadsheets didn’t stick. bank apps didn’t help me change behavior. i wanted something faster, lighter, and a bit more honest.

whether local-first makes sense here
what’s missing for power users
