I went to this! The panels were very diverse in style and content. Some were on anthropological studies being done at universities, to Q&A with local artists in the community. Overall very interesting and I hope to attend next year.
It really wasn’t like a convention. It was one day, and the panels were more focused on meta analysis of the community rather than the typical sort of thing you’d see at a con.

It's a spectrum and the best conferences definitely have convention elements. DefCon has a fursuit lounge.
These are the types of events that cause ‘normies’ to demand or be indifferent to defunding academia.
You can’t blame them though, they have no free well, it’s just cause and effect in our current culture.
I know this having been in the thick of it.
