A boycott is a form of protest. There's more than just a protest happening here. Foreigners are legitimately afraid to travel to the US after seeing stories of others being detained and treated inhumanely.

The common internet meme is “Canadians have two modes. ‘Sorry’ and ‘You’ll be sorry.’” And the latter has been triggered. It’s a big world, tourism and travel is discretionary and people are pissed. There’s a goods boycott going on as well, with BABA as its acronym. This looks and feels like a significant shift in attitude, and it’s possible people here will realize there are reasonable and interesting alternatives.

And the US continues to pick at the scab, preventing it from healing.

For the first time in about a century there is uncertainty about the future of Canada's economic and security alignment.

It's like starting a business with your best friend. And now he's gone manic and has shown up at your doorstep at 2 am with a knife demanding the money he is convinced you owe him. Even if he gets better it won't be the same relationship again.

This never goes back together, not with Canada nor any of the NATO countries. The shift that is happening internationally to move away from the USA will be mean the future relationship will be changed for at least decades. Everyone is working out how to put things together without the USA involved at all.

Yep. It’s been refreshing to see Canadians standing up.

Why go spend money somewhere that tries to bully you, tries to destroy your economy, threatens to invade you and become a state?

I never skied that side of the pond, but why would Canadians go skiing in the US? Surely plenty/more snow in Canada, and just as much mountains?

I used to travel to the USA at least twice a year. These days I'm off to Europe instead.

Sounds like it's high time the US of A expands again.
