I've always wondered why Google offers free email, free document space, a free browser, etc., but no free VPN. Perhaps Mozilla will finally make them come around.

The idea of routing all my traffic through a data company like Google is horrifying. If I ever got Google Fiber I'd have put everything through a more trustworthy VPN.

Google is the progenitor and linchpin of surveillance capitalism. Just because they don't have a web store where you can buy the privacy of its users with a shopping cart doesn't mean they don't profit from the obfuscatedly transparent traffic and activity of its users.

They're not going to subvert their business by offering true privacy, and not going to risk drawing too much attention to their effective sale of privacy by offering fake preservation of it.

Google did offer a VPN, Google One VPN.

It was kind of killed like a lot of other Google products.
