Spicy take: hooved ruminants like cows and sheep are singularly unsuited to the Australian bush. No longer rearing them for the sole purpose of exporting to the US would probably be a good thing.

On the upside, maybe Australia can keep selling horse and kangaroo to the US as beef and they won't even notice.

Australia bans beef imports from anywhere that's had outbreaks of BSE. Because they would like to not have it.
Not be surprised we tend to lag on re-approval, if it's good for our farmers.
I didn't realise that USA eats so much beef.
