The future of electric transportation is bikes. Or some share of it at least. Perhaps something along the lines of Altera later, but we’re not there yet.

Our family has a big-ish crossover. With modern safe child seats that’s almost a necessity for families with small kids these days.

But instead of a second car we both have electric bikes and take the bike to work (when it’s not snowing, we live in the north).

Don’t have to worry about needing to go to a gym, it’s free exercise, and uses far less energy than the car.

I couldn’t get to work in a reasonable time without an electric bikes. My parents always had two cars as long as I can remember. Only with e-bikes is a second car fully redundant for us. (You may ask about winter.. we have decent public transportation here two so that’s also important)

So does it matter then that the one car we do have is a bit on the big side?

I have no problem with families buying large cars. But it's a minority. For example in my country people that buy huge SUVs are mostly retired.

The EV3 is smaller than it looks:

Haven't you noticed? The future of all cars is SUV.

The EV4, by contrast, is sort of a hatchback, so that's a little better.

How exactly are they getting cost down compared to an EV6? EV6 starts at 43k at least in the US.
