    It is rather shocking how much police and prosecutors have relied on junk science for convictions, and even executions, such as the "shaken baby syndrome" quackery whereby a man's life hangs in the balance at this moment--I believe that his governor has issued a stay of execution for the time being.

    My parents, especially my murder-mystery mother, are voracious consumers of procedural police dramas, such as NCIS (I mean, I've got to love perky-goth Abby Sciuto and "Major MassSpec".) They also love the Canadian series The Murdoch Mysteries which introduces a little steampunk and historical forensic science into the mix, harkening back to when "fingermarks" were state-of-the-art.
